This beautiful Day has expanded to express affection between relatives and friends. This fantastic Day origins in Roman festival of Lupercalia, held in mid-February, The festival (which celebrated the coming of spring) included fertility rites and the pairing off of women with men by lottery. At the end of the 5 th century, Pope Gelasius। forbid the celebration of Lupercalia and replaced it with St. Valentine’s Day. But Valentine’s Day did not come to be celebrated as a day of romance until 14th century. In 2020, National Retail Federation surveyed that Americans planned to spend $1.3 billion on Valentines.
Happy Valentine’s Day
🔺History :
Although there have been several Christian martyrs named Valentine, the day was probably named after a priest who was martyred around 270 CE by Emperor Claudius II Gothicus. According to legend, the priest signed a letter “From your Valentine” to his jailer’s daughter, with whom he befriended. He cured that girl from blindness. This priest was St. Valentine of Turney, a bishop, for whom Valentine’s Day is named. Thst priest(St. Valentine) defied the emperor’s orders and secretly married couples to spare the husbands from war. It is for this reason that his feast day is associated with love.
Valentine’s Day as a lovers’ festival dates at least from the 14th century.

🔺 St. Valentine :
Saint Valentine
Saint Valentine, (died 3rd century, Rome; feast day February 14), the name of one or two legendary Christian martyrs whose lives appear to be historically based. Although the Roman Catholic Church continues to recognize Saint Valentine as a church saint, he was removed from the common Roman calendar in 1969 due to a lack of reliable information about him. He is the patron saint of lovers, epileptics and beekeepers.
According to some accounts, Saint Valentine was a Roman priest and physician who was martyred during the persecution of Christians by Emperor Claudius II Gothicus around 270 AD. He was buried in the Via Flaminia and Pope Julius I is said to have built a basilica over his summer. Other accounts identify him as the bishop of Tarni in Italy, who was martyred, apparently also in Rome, and whose relics were later taken to Tarni. It is possible that these are different versions of the same original account and refer to only one person.

🔺 Celebrate Valentine’s Day :
Formal messages, or valentines, appeared in the 1500s, and commercially printed cards were used in the late 1700s. The first commercial valentines were printed in the United States in the mid-1800s. Valentines usually depict Cupid, the Roman god of love, with a heart, traditionally the seat of passion. Because it was thought that the avian mating season began in mid-February, birds also became symbols of the day. Traditional gifts include candy and flowers, especially red roses, a symbol of beauty and love.
Valentine’s Day is commonly celebrated by exchanging handmade or store-bought “Valentines” (greeting cards) or other tokens of affection like chocolates and flowers. In many schools, it has become customary for young students to bring in Valentines to swap with classmates. Traditions of the holiday’s observance can vary with the country.

Chaucer wrote :-
“For this was on Saint Valentine’s Day When every bird comes there to choose his match Of every kind that men may think of And that so huge a noise they began to make That earth and air and tree and every lake Was so full, that not easily was there space For me to stand—so full was all the place.”

Kiss Day originated from the United Kingdom. This is celebrated every year on February 13. The unique idea behind kissing is showing your love towards your partner. Partners seal their relationship through a sweet kiss. The kiss is used to convey closeness, passion, commitment, affection and devotion. Kiss is the great way to show your hidden feelings without use of any words. So a tender kiss can express love better than a thousand words. The main aim behind the celebration of Kiss Day is strengthen your relationship. This Day is a Golden Day in Valentine’s week. Homer writes about King Priam showing respect by kissing the hand of Achilles and he intercedes on behalf of his son (800-900 BC). After the conquest of Alexander the Great, the practice of kissing spreads yo the West (326 BC). First “open-mouthed” kiss occurs between Greta Garbo and John Gilbert in the film “Flesh and the Devil” (1926).
Happy Kiss Day
Kiss is the touch or pressing of one’s lips against another person or an object. Cultural connotations of kissing vary widely. Depending on the culture and context, a kiss can express sentiments of love, passion, romance, sexual attraction, sexual activity, sexual arousal, affection, respect, greeting, peace, and good luck, among many others. In some situations, a kiss is a ritual, formal or symbolic gesture indicating devotion, respect, or a sacramental. The word came from Old English cyssan (“to kiss”), in turn from coss (“a kiss”).
🔺 History :
Anthropologists disagree on whether kissing is an instinctual or learned behavior.
Some researchers believe that kissing began millions of years ago as a result of mouth-to-mouth feeding, with mammal mothers chewing food and then “forcing it” into the mouths of their young.
University of Nevada Las Vegas, found that only 46% use lip-to-lip kissing in a romantic sense, excluding things like parent-child kissing or greetings.
The earliest reference to kissing-like behavior comes from the Vedas, Sanskrit scriptures that informed Hinduism, Buddhism, and Jainism, around 3,500 years ago, according to Vaughn Bryant, an anthropologist at Texas A&M University who specializes in the history of the kiss.
The Indian epic poem “Mahabharata” describes kissing on the lips as a sign of affection. The “Mahabharata” was passed down orally for several hundred years before being written down and standardized around 350 A.D. The Indian religious text “Vatsyayana Kamasutram,” or the “Kama Sutra,” also describes a variety of kisses. It was written in the 6th century A.D. Anthropologists who believe that kissing is a learned behavior theorize that the Greeks learned about it when Alexander the Great invaded India in 326 B.C.
A fresco from Pompeii showing the kiss of Roman couple.
There aren’t many records of kissing in the Western world until the days of the Roman Empire. Romans used kisses to greet friends and family members. Citizens kissed their rulers’ hands. And, naturally, people kissed their romantic partners. The Romans even came up with three different categories for kissing :
*Osculum was a kiss on the cheek.
*Basium was a kiss on the lips.
*Savolium was a deep kiss.
Kissing was not always an indication of eros, or love, but also could show respect and rank as it was used in Medieval Europe.
The study of kissing started sometime in the nineteenth century and is called philematology.
🔺 Importance and significance :
Kiss day was borne out of the idea that many people forget the pleasure one can gain from the single act of kissing. It is the best way to make others feel loved and express love in return. The simple pleasure of kissing your partner before leaving for work or after coming back from a long day has lost its essence in the fast pace of the modern world. But kiss day aims to revive the celebration of expressing love. Whenever your love starts fading out, you can simply rekindle the romance by a minimum act of intimacy each day.
🔺 Health benefits :
Kissing stimulates the production of hormones responsible for a good mood: oxytocin, which releases the feeling of love and strengthens the bond with the partner, endorphins – hormones responsible for the feeling of happiness –, and dopamine, which stimulates the pleasure center in the brain . Regular kissing protects against depression. Affection in general has stress-reducing effects. Kissing in particular has been studied in a controlled experiment and it was found that increasing the frequency of kissing in marital and cohabiting relationships results in a reduction of perceived stress, an increase in relationship satisfaction, and a lowering of cholesterol levels.
🔺 Disease transmission :
Kissing on the lips can result in the transmission of some diseases, including infectious mononucleosis (known as the “kissing disease”) and herpes simplex when the infectious viruses are present in saliva. Research indicates that contraction of HIV via kissing is extremely unlikely, although there was a documented case in 1997 of an HIV infection by kissing. Both the woman and infected man had gum disease, so transmission was through the man’s blood, not through saliva.
🔺 Kiss Day Poetry :
*** Both lip and tongue kissing are mentioned in Sumerian [ Mesopotamia (south-central Iraq), 4500 BC ] poetry:-
My lips are too small, they know not to kiss.
My precious sweet, lying by my heart,
one by one “tongue making,” one by one.
When my sweet precious, my heart, had lain down too,
each of them in turn kissing with the tongue, each in turn.
*** Kissing is described in the surviving ancient Egyptian love poetry from the New Kingdom, found on papyri…
excavated at Deir el-Medina:-
Finally I will drink life from your lips
and wake up from this ever lasting sleep.
The wisdom of the earth in a kiss
and everything else in your eyes.
I kiss her before everyone
that they all may see my love.
And when her lips are pressed to mine
I am made drunk and need not wine.
When we kiss, and her warm lips half
open,
I fly cloud-high without beer!
His kisses on my lips, my breast, my hair…
…Come! Come! Come! And kiss me when I die,
For life, compelling life, is in thy breath;
And at that kiss, though in the tomb I lie,
I will arise and break the bands of Death.
*** Roman poets such as Catullus celebrated kissing, as, for example,
in Catullus 8 :-
Goodbye girl, now Catullus is firm,/ He doesn’t search for you, won’t ask unwillingly./ But you’ll grieve, when nobody asks./ Woe to you, wicked girl, what life’s left for you?/ Who’ll submit to you now? Who’ll see your beauty?/ Who now will you love? Whose will they say you’ll be?/ Who will you kiss? Whose lips will you bite?/ But you, Catullus, be resolved to be firm.
[ Catullus(84 – 54 BC) is ancient Rome’s greatest poet.
His poems are the best examples of Latin poetry. ]
***Modern Poetry :-
Before the fog of strangers cleared,
he called me & said,
How are you… what are you doing ?
Just before giving the right answer
distanced mountain &
the light of the tower were seen…
Shal flowers laughed
in absolute crowd.
Nepali girls spreading their legs
on the green lawn
are laughing
Continuous nightingale song…
You stood on the other side of the road
Then I am picking up
one thorn after another
from the hem of cotton sari.

The hug is a form of endearment, universal in most human communities, in which two or more people put their arms around neck, back or waist of one another and hold each other closely. The “HUG” (first used in 1560s) could be related to the Old Norse word “HUGGA”. The hypothesis is that the word is related to the German word “HEGEN”. Hugs are an essential form of physical touch. This can be a sign of romantic, security, emotional support, friendship or love. The hug, sometimes in association with a kiss, is a form of non verbal communication. To celebrate this manifestation of love, Hug Day is commemorated on February 12. every year. The hug is one of the most natural gestures. This lovely day encourages hugging, as a therapeutic way to convey affection and emotions. We love all types of hugs, from one-armed hug to full hug. So let’s get hugging !!
Happy Hug Day
🔺 History :
The word “hug” is believed to come from the ancient Scandinavian word “hugga” meaning “hippy,” — actually, it means “to comfort.”
Hugging involves both hands, so it’s likely it was a way to prove friendship . It’s ingrained in our culture.
Research shows that babies wither without hugs from their mothers and that holding and touching reduces anxiety, improves sleep and helps us empathize with others as we grow up.
They have been determined to be approximately 6000 years old
, so we know for sure that people already hugged each other in Neolithic times. When we hug, we wrap our arms around another person.
🔺Scientific Facts About Hugging :
1). The average hug time 3.17 seconds :-
A study led by Ms Nagy from the University of Dundee analyzed 188 spontaneous hugs between athletes and their coaches, competitors and supporters during the 2008 Summer Olympic Games (Nagy, 2011).
The results : The average hug lasted 3.17 seconds and was not affected by the gender composition of the hugging pair or the nationalities of the two huggers.
2). Humans have hugged each other since thousands of years :-
No one knows when the first hug between two humans took place, but we do know that hugs have been in the human behavioral repertoire for at least several thousand years. In 2007, a team of archaeologists discovered the so-called “Valdaro’s Lover” in a Neolithic tomb near Mantua, Italy (Stewart, 2007). The lovers are a pair of human skeletons buried in a tight embrace. They have been dated to approximately 6000 years old, so we know for sure that people were already hugging each other during the Neolithic period.
The Lovers of Valdaro in Italy, male skeleton is on the left, and the
female skeleton is on the right.
3). Hug to the Right :-
We found that overall, most people hugged to the right. In the emotionally neutral situation in which strangers hugged a blindfolded person, 92% hugged to the right. However, in more emotional situations, that is, when people hugged their friends or partners at the airport, only about 81% of people hugged to the right. Since the left hemisphere of the brain controls the right half of the body and vice versa, we believe that this leftward shift in hugging is due to a greater involvement of the right hemisphere of the brain for emotional processes during hugging in these situations.
4). Hugging improves Health :-
Individuals who had received a hug from their partner prior to being stressed showed significantly lower blood pressure and heart rate than those who did not touch their partners. Thus, hugging leads to lower reactivity to stressful events and may benefit cardiovascular health.

In a heart-to-heart hug, both huggers approach the hug from their left sides, so their hearts touch first. This can be done in a standing or sitting position. While sitting, your arms and legs can be intertwined. Mattenson recommends holding it for three minutes or longer.
🔺 Hug Day Poem :
You were a long way traveler
then you came near
Stay together for a few days
you got pain
from the thron
The soft scent
of some flowers
was shared between twos
This is how the journey begins
our words… our pain
all remained ours
who cares about that
.
I will walk the way of the world…
with the world
With this hope…
I keep hand in your hand.
Ah… the soul of my life
the song you wrote with the melody
is still alive today
But the pain remains
I sew the words together
Keeping the head on grass…
with the light of moon & sun on chest
we fill both of our house
with hug happiness…

🔺 Different states of promises :
                                Â
A promise has three states:-
* pending: the promise is still in the works.
* fulfilled: the promise resolves successfully and returns a value.
* rejected: the promise fails with an error.
🔺 Three Types of Promises :
What is obvious to me may not be obvious to you.
Trust in relationships is based on our ability to communicate with each other in unison. Healthy relationships are based on making promises, keeping promises, and managing promises. Commitment is the foundation of our identity, our effectiveness and our well-being.
We may not call them commitments, but commitments are agreements and decisions about who will do what, when, and how. A promise is a promise to ourselves and a promise to others.
We cannot share commitments without shared understanding. Our expectations are based on the promises we make.
Unspoken expectations are premeditative broken promises.
People do not care about your expectations. Or mine. They care about the commitments we make and keep.
A promise is a personal commitment people expect you to honor.
There are 3 types of promises :-
* Strong/Healthy Promises –
Promises I am fully committed to keep; You can count on me.
If I am unable to keep my promise, I can renegotiate my original promise
i.e. I will meet you for coffee at 8 am. I will complete my assignment on time.
* Shallow Promises –
Look like a strong promise, but an unspoken condition exists.
i.e. Yes, I will play golf with you on Saturday (unless it rains or something else comes up)
* Criminal Promises –
Promises that at the moment we make them, we know we have no intention of keeping
i.e. Maybe…My son asks me to play with him when I am done, and I tell him maybe
Promises unkept are NOT equal to expectations unmet.
What promises are you making?
Are you honoring those promises?
What promises are you fully committed to honoring?
What promises do you need to renegotiate?
Personal integrity and honor depends on owning and delivering on the promises we make. Relationship trust is too valuable to take for granted.
Commit to making STRONG HEALTHY promises.
🔺 Promise Day Philosophy :
Every advantage of promise in the past is judged in the light of the final issue.
– Demosthenes
Philosophers have tried to establish rules for promises. Immanuel Kant suggested promises should always be kept, while some consequentialists argue that promises should be broken whenever doing so would yield benefits. In How to Make Good Decisions and Be Right All the Time, Iain King tried to reconcile these positions, suggesting that promises should be kept ‘unless they are worth less to others than a new option is to you, and that this requires a relevant, unforeseen and reasonably unforeseeable change in the situation more important than the promise itself arising after the promise is made.

🔺 Promise Day Poetry :
Wait a minute my friend
Let me understand the mind first
then exchange of words between us
keep your eyes on my eyes
next we walk together step by step
We will wipe our feets
in the soft dew water of grass
and we will walk
from day to night
in search of eternal dream
Or until you draw words
into the grasshopper’s eyes
The homeless wind
will find a home
.
what happened
Are not you surprised ?
Don’t worry too much
you fall in deep love
.
You say with love
love is nectar
Love is life
Oh love friend
don’t be lonely anymore…
